Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk 2007

So I found out about 2 years ago that my Grandma was in Stage 2 or 3 of Alzheimer's Disease. Well, it's 2 years later, and she's now in stage 6. It moved fairly quickly with her. My grandpa took care of her as long he could on his own, but we now have her in an Alzheimer's home in Wenatchee, close to my Uncle. I saw her for Appleblossom in Wentachee, in May. She wasn't doing well. Didn't remember my sisters husband, didn't remember me graduating from Highschool (5 years ago), and was barely eating. I went to see her with my mother, about a month ago, in her new home. I braced myself as much as I could, knowing it would be difficult to see her in such a state that I wasn't used to seeing her in. I did ok as we walked in. The minute I saw her, and saw how happy she was to see us, I burst into tears. I tried to hide it from her, since I didn't want to upset her, but it was difficult to hold back. She was scared to be in there, and was asking my mom and I if we were there to take her home. She was walking around with a picture of her and my grandpa, tucked into the top of her shirt. I could tell she hated being there, and was scared to be alone.
This is probably one the of saddest moments of my life, to see my grandma scared and knowing I could do nothing about it. My mom and I made the most of our visit with her. Had her give us a tour of the facility, and had her play some interactive games with the other residents. At first she wouldn't play, saying "Oh no, Honey, I never play. I prefer to just watch." My mom came back quickly with, "Mom, we're not leaving until you play one game!"
I told her I'd play with her. They were playing some lawn dart game, where the resident was asked to throw the soft toy dart at a cloth dart board, on the floor. Once she started playing, she got into it. Dancing, doing the hokey pokey and whooping butt! It was nice to see her having fun, and not crying.
I vowed that I would visit her as much as I could this year, since she's moving quickly through the disease.
Since I can't be up there as much as I would like to be, I wanted to find a way to help out from here. I found the Alzheimer's Association online, and stumbled accross their 2007 Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk, and knew I had to sign up.
I'm doing this walk to help raise money for a cure for Alzheimer's Disease. Watching someone close to you go through this, is one of the hardest things to go through, and I want to do evrything I can so that others will never have to go through it.
If you would like to help a great cause, please go to my website and sponsor me. This fundraiser means a lot to me and my family, so you're help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Guys.

A lesson to learn from Simpson's Marketing Crew

I've seen several very clever marketing approaches, in writing this blog, but I have to say that this one takes the cake.

The Simpson's marketing crew has gone so far above and beyond traditional campains that they are officially setting an example for other inspiring Marketing Companies to follow.
To name a few big name companies that they've paired up with: JetBlue, Burger King, 7-Eleven and Vans.

JetBlue has titled itself the Official Airline of Springfield, (The Simpson's hometown) with the CEO, David Neeleman's blog being taken over by Montgomary Burns. (Which is hysterical by the way. As Montgomary quotes; "I must go now as Smithers has prepared my colon cleansing.")

Burger King is providing Simpson's Toys in each kids meal, and has deemed The Double Whopper, as Homer's favorite Whopper. (Actually, not that clever, compared to the rest of these.)

7-Eleven, as we all know, has transformed several of their stores into Kwik-E-Marts. Seattle has one of its own, located on Denny Way. The store carries grocery products such as Buzz Cola, KrustyO's Cereal and Slushie drinks. The stores are decorated on the outside, to look like the cartoon store with the characters displayed on the walls. Even one of the old men from the Springfield Retirement Home is found pressing up against the glass in the freezer. There are TONS of pictures on Flickr.com with locals posing next to the characters for a perfect photo op. Great idea, I think.
Vans shoes has hired 12 artists to design their own "Simpson's" These shoes will be on sale starting July 14th, and are being sold exclusively in boutique stores. That does sound cool and all, but personally, I think I'll stick to my Nine West's.
I think with all of this creative, original and clever marketing this movie is bound to be a hit in the box office.
Brittany's next stop: Kwik-E-Mart on Denny Way. Slushies, here I come!

"Finding the perfect guy? It's a breeze!!"

When I heard about Gilette's new online interactive promotion, I had to try it.
Gilette is promoting their new Venus Breeze razor, and I guess the best way to do that is...... let women create their ideal merman??? Hey, works for me! You get to pick your dreamboat's ideal body, and from a few multiple choice answers, pick his personality!
The best part of all this? You get to keep your merman in a ManQuarium!! If you're bored at home, sitting alone and watching Fried Green Tomatoes... you can go to your own special ManQuarium site and check in on your new found hottie! Make sure he's well taken care of, you know.
Check out my guy and then make your own! Good luck!

Impart's success at Digital Signage expo!

A huge congrats to our Sales guys that attended The Digital Signage Expo (DSE) last week in Chicago! As stated by our own Director of Channel Sales, Jon Lutter; "In my many years working tradeshows, I have never witnessed the type of uninterrupted and continuous flow of booth activity as we experienced in Chicago."

It sounds like the show was a great success. Our CEO, Joseph Martinez helped moderate a panel discussion session, which also received positive feedback. Go Joe!

I was told that the amount of Digital Signage companies at the show was more than our sales guys had ever seen, which has to say something about the rapidly growing Digital Signage Industry.

Everyone here at Impart had a hand in making such a successfull show, so good job guys!

Cheers!

Why Match.com doesn't sell me.

I absolutely cannot stand Match.com's online advertising. I can't check my Myspace mail without seeing some dumb joke of an ad saying "Find single doctors near you"or "Find intellectual guys near you" or "Athletic guys". I am not over exaggerating when I say that every single time I see this ad, I cringe in the worst way possible. I'm embarrassed for these actors. I understand what Match.com is trying to do here, but they're coming off in a way that I don't think they want to be seen as..
I signed up for a free trial with Match.com about two years ago, just to try it, you know how that goes. A coworker at Aloha Tan had told me about it, and I thought, sure, why not? It never really went anywhere... guys would send me "winks" saying they were interested by what they read in my profile, and my pictures and such. But I never really followed up with them. At the time, I thought Match.com could actually have been a good way to find someone. Maybe not your soul mate, but someone you could be in a relationship with.

When I saw these new ads, I had to do a double take. Is this really Match.com?? No, it has to be that cheesy True.com..they always try to sell sex, with airbrushed female models who look sickly skinny with unrealistic curves.

What kind of message is Match.com trying to give out with these ridiculous ads? I used to think of Match.com as a reasonable way to meet new people, but these ads have ruined any chance of me actually signing up and paying for their services. The absolute main reason for this? It's the horrifying looks the guys give when they try to look sexy. It's how they're trying to seduce the camera, in a perverted, hit on the young girl in the bar kind of way..... see where I'm getting at here? How is that at all appealing??

Hey, being single sounds pretty darn good right about now!

How do you make your company stand out in the crowd?

These days, if you're looking for a certain company to fulfil a need you may have, there are soooo many choices of who to give your business to, how do you know who to chose? Did you make the right decision?
When I managed a tanning salon in Redmond called Neon Sun, the owner and I would map out new ideas for marketing our unique beds and new lotions. We did pretty pretty well too.. until a Desert Sun went in a few blocks down the street. Now, everyone knows Desert Sun, even if you don't go tanning, your sure to have heard of them one time or another. Let me get to my point;
The pros of Desert Sun:
They always have high end, up to date beds and lotions. They're salons are absolutly georgous. Hardwood floors, custom lighting, bright and classy paint colors.
The cons of Desert Sun:
Very hardcore salespeople. A staff that consists of fake, conceited 16 year old girls who wear super short skirts. The 2 male founders of the salon are known to be arrogant and sleazy, and have actually been charged with sexual harrasment several times from their female staff.
So yes, Desert Sun seems like a good tanning salon. They're great about cleaning their beds and you know you're being offered the best products. But is that all that makes a company?
I've said before that how you represent your company will affect how your customers view your company as a whole.
Neon Sun is a small, rarely heard of tanning salon in Redmond, WA. It was opened by a young female who had owned salons before, and an older male who had the finanials to back up her vision. They have anywhere from basic standard beds to high end high pressure beds.
Neon Sun was a good company, with loyal, hard working and personable employees. The beds were always clean and employees remembered your name and would catch up with you upon walking in. "Hi Mary! How have you been? How did you like that Dark Sexy Tan sample you tried last week?"
My point is it was a genuine place with genuinly kind people.
Which salon would you chose based on this? Are you easily sold by the appearance of the company, or do you take the time to get to know the people before deciding? Do yourself or your company a favor before picking a company to work with, do the research first. Find a good company with kind, hard working employees and you can bet they're take better care of you in the end.
Can I also just say, that Pink Coconut Tanning Salon is a genuinly good company with the nicest founders. If you're looking for a tanning salon, ditch desert sun, go to pink coconut. You won't be sorry.
